Getting Heard on Yelp: Tips From Our Long Beach Auto Body Shop.
We love hearing from our customers especially when they're happy with the collision repairs to their car. We get lots of great feedback in our customer surveys, emails notes and Yelp reviews.
Unfortunately not all Yelp reviews make it on to our page. We thought that was weird and investigated to find out why.
We found out about the Yelp Filter. It's why a lot of our reviews are down the bottom of our page and filed under 'not currently recommended'. We have over 40 reviews + over 20 that are not recommended. Customers who join Yelp then are not very active will wind up down there.
The Yelp Filter takes into account several factors such as profile info, number of reviews, photos, check-ins, quality of reviews and other factors. Yelp have written a complex algorithmic filter to take all of these factors into account to determine if a Yelp review is legit.
In general, if you join Yelp just to write one or two reviews they won't make it on the page. How do you fix that? (Hint - you want to be more like Joe, Rick and Kay, below, and less like Bambi and Mike)
Write a bunch of Yelp reviews. Take 10 local businesses and leave Yelp reviews for them. Your favorite local businesses will thank you and you’ve done good in the world by helping them. But remember, Yelp wants real people giving real reviews. Not every experience is positive and your Yelp reviews should run the spectrum from 1-5 stars.
Connect your account to Facebook. It tells Yelp that it's more likely that you are real.
Complete your Yelp profile. Add a photo if Facebook didn't do it. Add your location and a few details.
Make friends. Use Facebook or Email to quickly send invites to lots of friends on Yelp. You might be surprised how many friend you back. Then interact with their reviews by marking them Useful, Funny, etc. Yelp accounts with friends are more likely to be real.
Download the Yelp app and Check In. If you are linked up with your mobile phone, it’s more likely that you are real.
Leave tips for a business. They're quick and easy to do.
Take a little time. You don’t go from 0-100 reviews in a weekend. Give it some time to build your reputation before you give that coveted Yelp review that makes a difference. Plus it doesn’t look real to go from 0-50 in a night.
The Yelp Review Filter can bring a lot of frustration to Yelp users who want to praise a particular business - only to see their review disappear. But it's easy to get into Yelp and be heard!
